CLUB
Meet Eleno
Eleno Mamo, an Auctioneer by trade, is a prominent figure in Maltese tennis, best known for his various roles at the Birkirkara Tennis Club. Under his leadership, the club has become a key player in the Maltese tennis scene, hosting two prestigious National Tennis Opens each year, sanctioned by the Malta Tennis Federation.
His commitment to developing tennis in Malta has made Birkirkara Tennis Club a hub for local tennis tournaments, fostering a vibrant community of tennis enthusiasts
In 2018, we introduced another Open Tournament to commemorate our anniversary, attracting over 50 male participants. The tradition continued in 2019, but the 2020 May event was canceled due to COVID-19. However, the September tournament proceeded, with Matthew Asciak emerging victorious.
Despite the challenges of 2021, we celebrated the 15th anniversary of our courts’ first use, with ongoing plans to enhance our facilities.
In 2023, we launched our first Open Doubles Tournament, also sanctioned by the Malta Tennis Federation, which was a resounding success. Today, our club hosts three Open Tournaments annually, along with three weekend tournaments for club members, attracting a strong turnout each time.
Our History
In July 2000, Parliament approved the leasing of land near the Birkirkara Bypass for our tennis club. After five years of diligent planning and environmental assessments, the project was greenlit in April 2006. Today, the club boasts two floodlit tennis courts, with spectator seating available on Court 1. The clubhouse includes modern amenities like showers, a gym, a snack bar, and administrative rooms, with parking for 22 cars.
The project was designed and overseen by our first Club President, Mr. Anthony Mamo, with architectural work led by Mr. Godwin Borg.
2016 marked our 10th anniversary, celebrated with a gathering of members and supporters.
In 2017, we hosted our first Singles Open Tournament, sanctioned by the Malta Tennis Federation. Sponsored by EnergyBet and Charles Grech & Co. Ltd, the tournament featured intense matches, with Elaine Genovese and Matthew Asciak claiming the women’s and men’s titles, respectively. The event saw 52 participants across both tournaments.
